4 Promises I Make to My Yoga Students (and Why They Matter)

When you step into one of our yoga sessions, you’re not entering a performance space - you’re entering a sanctuary. A place where you are invited to move, breathe, explore, and simply be. Over time, I’ve come to realise that how we teach matters just as much as what we teach.

So today, I want to share the four promises I make to every person who joins us on the mat and why they’re so important in creating a safe, supportive space where your yoga practice is truly your own.

1. No Hands-On Adjustments

I don’t believe physical adjustments are necessary in the type of yoga I offer. Instead, I use clear, inclusive language and gentle demonstrations to guide you into each shape with care and intention.

There is no force. No pressure to achieve a particular look.
It’s not about what the shapes appear to be—it’s about how they feel.

You are the expert of your own body. You know your energy, your edges, and what feels like a good place to pause, breathe, and notice. My role is to support—not to correct, push, or expect.

The focus is always on the journey within the shape, not on achieving a specific external form.

2. No Photos—Especially During Savasana

I promise I will never take photos during your practice, especially not during savasana, when your eyes are closed and your body is in its most vulnerable, receptive state.

Savasana is a time to withdraw from the external world, to let go, and to be deeply present with yourself. That deserves the utmost respect and protection.

There will be no photography at any time during class.
Your yoga practice is not something to capture—it’s something to feel.
It’s an experience to be embraced, not documented.

(And just so you know—my eyes and ears are always open while you rest in savasana. You are held and looked after.)

3. No Competition, No Hierarchy

There is no hierarchy to the shapes we explore. Our mats are not stages. This is not a performance.

Your yoga practice is unique to you.
It’s not about being the strongest or the most flexible. It’s about tuning in to what feels right—moment by moment.

Every shape has purpose and value. The so-called “simplest” shapes can be just as powerful and transformative as any others. What matters is not how far you go—but how aware and present you are.

4. Authentic—but Professionally Authentic

You’ll always get the real me—but in a way that respects the shared space we create. I might mix up left and right. I sometimes stutter when I guide. And yes, I may burst into the occasional song if it feels right in the moment!

But I also know that my personal energy affects the room, and I take that responsibility seriously.

If I’m having a tough day, I won’t bring that into our shared space. And if I ever can’t show up in the way I’ve promised, I’ll communicate that honestly and offer alternative arrangements if needed.

I’m not perfect. I’m human. But I will always lead from a place of care, compassion, and respect for your experience.

If you’ve ever felt out of place in a yoga class…
If you’ve ever felt like you had to perform, push, or prove something…
If you’re searching for a grounded, supportive space to reconnect with yourself...

You’re warmly invited to join us.

Come as you are.
There’s no right way—only your way.
And I’m here to guide, not to judge.
